Staff

August Maulfair: Executive Director

August first began working with SNAP Volusia as a part of their AmeriCorps VISTA service in 2024. Although August finished their service year in May of 2025, they decided to stay involved in SNAP Volusia in order to help fundraise for the nonprofit and build out a long-term sustainability plan. Outside of their work with SNAP Volusia, August serves as the Senior Manager of State Advocacy with the national nonprofit Student Basic Needs Coalition, working to connect college students across the country with the public benefits that they are entitled to.

Grey Smith: Market Coordinator

Grey is a senior studying Philosophy at Stetson University with a passion for expanding food access through public health. In the fall of 2025, she joined SNAP Volusia as their Market Coordinator. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, she hopes to pursue a Master of Public Health Policy to expand her ability to improve food access nationwide. She is excited to continue supporting SNAP Volusia and its community as she starts her career!

Board of Directors

Dr. Maxwell Droznin: Founder, Treasurer, Board Member

Max has been involved in SNAP Volusia since its inception. After graduating from Stetson University in 2016 and then serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA in DeLand, he worked with local farmers and nonprofits to help set up the first SNAP-accessible farmer’s market site in Volusia County. Since then, he has continued to be involved in SNAP Volusia while also growing his passion for food security and community health through completing a Master of Public Health and receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree. He is currently working to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Sarah Cramer: Board Member

Sarah is an assistant professor of sustainable food systems at Stetson University, and has been involved in SNAP Volusia since arriving in DeLand in 2018. She holds a Master of Public Health degree and a PhD in agricultural education. On campus, she teaches a variety of courses about the food system, sustainable agriculture, food culture, and food policy, and regularly supervises Stetson student interns working with SNAP Volusia. She is a passionate advocate for the SNAP program — one of the best things our country has ever done to feed hungry people — and was once a SNAP recipient herself.

Noah Hertz: Board Member

Noah is a DeLand High School graduate, journalist and food access advocate living in Jacksonville, FL. He first got involved with SNAP Volusia in 2021, when he helped to jumpstart the program’s presence at the Artisan Alley Farmers Market in DeLand after a hiatus caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. These days, Noah is a digital reporter for Jacksonville Today and WJCT Public Media, and a regular at several of Jacksonville’s farmers markets.

Katie Chapin: Board Member

Katie Chapin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and owner of local therapy practice Solid Ground Counseling. After funding cuts paused SNAP Volusia’s presence at the DeLand Market, her practice partnered with SNAP to keep the booth running. Katie later joined the board to further support its mission. Passionate about social justice and food access, she sees her work with SNAP Volusia as a natural extension of her work as a therapist.
